Appligent Document Solutions Partners with Datalogics, Announces Appligent PDF Forms API
Monday, August 2, 2010
Lansdowne, PA, August 2, 2010 — Chicago-based Datalogics, Incorporated, the premier source for Adobe PDF developer technologies, and Lansdowne, PA-based Appligent Document Solutions today announced the release of the Appligent PDF Forms API through a technology partnership between the two companies. The Appligent PDF Forms API provides PDF form filling and flattening capabilities in a developer toolkit. It is a C API available on Windows, MacOS, Linux, Solaris, HPUX, and AIX platforms; and is available directly from Datalogics.
"We're very excited to be working with Datalogics to meet the needs of their enterprise customers," said Duff Johnson, CEO of Appligent Document Solutions. "Our enterprise technology partnership will bring our high-level, time-tested APIs to the developers Datalogics has supported for years," he said.
"As the source for Adobe PDF developer technologies, we've seen heavy demand for PDF forms processing and manipulation capabilities," notes Kevin McNeill, President of Datalogics. "Through this partnership with Appligent, we're now able to offer a market proven forms solution that complements our Adobe PDF Library offerings and further solidifies our position as the single source destination for PDF developer toolkits."
The Appligent PDF Forms API is based on Appligent Document Solutions' pioneering and still industry-leading FDFMerge. Now powered by the Adobe PDF Library, FDFMerge fills PDF forms with forms data, fully flattening them for archival purposes, or partially flattening them for multi-stage workflows. All of the functionality of FDFMerge is available through this API, including:
- Programmatically filling form fields with text and images from data source(s) using ISO 32000 FDF and XFDF files
- Flattening all form fields within a form, or selectively flattening a subset
- Formatting and modifying form fields
- Precise typographic control of character spacing, word spacing and line leading in form fields
- Support for both RGB and CMYK colorspaces

Duff Johnson now Chair of PDF/A Competence Center, North American Chapter
Wednesday, May 5, 2010
Lansdowne, Pennsylvania -- Appligent Document Solutions (ADS) today announced that its CEO, Duff Johnson, will chair the North American chapter of the PDF/A Competence Center, the industry group dedicated to promoting awareness and adoption of ISO 19005, the international standard for archive-quality PDF electronic documents.
In October, 2002, Appligent became one of the first organizations to join the effort to create the PDF/A International Standard for archiving electronic documents, now known as ISO 19005.
Founded in 2006, the PDF/A Competence Center now helps over100 members with shared experiences and resources designed to educate and assist implementers of ISO 19005 for electronic document archiving and quality-control purposes.
"The PDF/A Competence Center has led the way in promoting PDF/A throughout Europe,” said ADS CEO Duff Johnson. “Quite frankly, it's time for North America to catch up, and I'm pleased that we can add our own resources to help make the case for PDF/A, advancing awareness and adoption of this critical technology here in North America.”
PDF/A is a limited subset of the much broader ISO 32000 PDF international standard. Creation, validation and (when necessary) conversion of input files to meet PDF/A standards offers institutions and other organizations handling mission-critical content the assurance that such files will be reliable 10, 30 or 100 years hence, regardless of original operating system or application software.
Harald Grumser, Chairman of the PDF/A Competence Center, said: "On behalf of the PDF/A Competence Center Board and myself, I'm very pleased that Duff Johnson will represent the PDF/A Competence Center as Chair of the North American chapter. Duff has been an industry thought-leader and tireless advocate for PDF standards for years. We're delighted that he and Appligent Document Solutions will be able to lend their dynamism to promoting PDF/A as the solution for long-term storage of electronic documents.”
“We are looking forward to expanding the PDF/A Competence Center's activities in the US this year in cooperation with Appligent Document Solutions," Grumser said.

SecurSign adds 256-bit AES encryption and support for "secure envelope" PDF files
Tuesday, March 23, 2010| For Immediate Release | Contact: Jennifer Hoff |
| March 23, 2010 | 610.284.4006 | jennifer@appligent.com |
Lansdowne, PA -- Appligent Document Solutions www.appligent.com, the leading 3rd party PDF enterprise software company, today announced the immediate availability of version 4.0 of its enterprise-class SecurSign server software for Windows, Linux 32-bit, 64-bit, HP-UX and AIX.*
Newly re-powered with the Adobe PDF Library, the new SecurSign offers full support for all standard Adobe Acrobat 9.x password based encryption mechanisms, support for PDF security "envelopes" - encrypted attachments of unencrypted PDF files, enhanced reliability in opening and repairing damaged PDFs and the ability to retain a document's last modified date.
With support for AES 256-bit encryption, SecurSign delivers enterprise-class dynamic digital signature and encryption functions for server-based PDF workflows. With its all-new ability to encrypt PDF and non-PDF file attachments alone (leaving the PDF itself unencrypted), SecurSign 4.0 offers an exceptionally cost-effective secure delivery 'envelope' for any file that may be attached to a PDF.
Many organizations use digital signatures to sign PDF files as they are downloaded from a webserver to assure authenticity for contracts and other documents produced on-demand. In these workflows, SecurSign is used to sign and secure PDF files on the fly when they leave a controlled environment.
In another implementation, a large shipping company uses SecurSign to digitally sign and encrypt shipping documents in batch. SecurSign provides a batch processing capability for signing the thousands of files that comprise each shipping manifest; the signatures are verifiable in the free Adobe Reader with no additional software required.
SecurSign 4.0 adds important new capabilities that will increase security and reliability in any workflow. "The encryption of PDF and non-PDF file attachments allows a PDF file to be used as a transport mechanism or container for secure content," said Appligent Document Solutions CTO Mark Gavin. "This allows the unencrypted pages of the PDF file to be used for instructions, disclaimers or information related to the encrypted enclosures ," he said. SecurSign is fully compliant with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
Appligent Document Solutions is currently the only 3rd party commercial software vendor to offer PDF security software powered by Adobe's PDF Library, by far the most reliable and capable PDF library in existence. In addition to the Adobe Library's unparalleled ability to deal with corrupt and poor-quality PDFs, the new SecurSign 4.0 optionally outputs ISO 32000 compliant Adobe PDF files.
SecurSign 4.0 is available immediately from Appligent Document Solutions' website and from our network of resellers. Production licenses start at $2,495. The software is available without charge to existing Appligent Document Solutions customers with current Support & Maintenance agreements.
