How do I represent special characters in a FDF?

ANSWER: Special characters need to be coded in Octal code. A list of the octal characters and their number can be found in the PDF Reference Manual, which can be accessed from the following URL:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/pdf/pdfs/PDFReference16.pdf (See Appendix D.1 Latin Character Set and Encodings)

Note: the appearance of the characters does depend on the font.
