Document Information Dictionary

The document information dictionary is a dictionary found in the PDF document containing document metadata.  This metadata will typically consist of Author, Subject, Title and Keywords.  In addition, typically the documents Creator and Producer are included along with the document Creation Date and last Modification Date.

Following is an example of a typical document information dictionary:

1 0 obj
<< /Title (Apple Developer Connection)
/Author (Mark  Gavin)
/Subject ()
/Keywords ()
/Creator (Safari)
/Producer (Mac OS X 10.5.5 Quartz PDFContext)
/CreationDate (D:20081009233036Z00'00')
/ModDate (D:20081009233036Z00'00')
>>
endobj

In addition to the document information dictionary; in newer PDF files, metadata is also stored as XML using eXtensible Metadata Platform (XMP).
