APConductor
APConductor is a SOAP Server which acts as a central dispatcher directing requests from other applications to its PDF processing components and returning the finished results. Developers can now integrate PDF processing within a services based architecture to construct complete solutions for creating, customizing, securing and redacting documents. Since APConductor relies on standard Web protocols such as XML, SOAP, WSDL, FTP and HTTP, it is accessible over established networks and is platform and machine independent. Applications, data, APConductor and Appligent's other components can be deployed on separate locations on the network.
Key Features
Web services-based architecture. Deploy applications, data, APConductor, and Appligent’s other components from different locations. It can also be used in both .NET and Java 2 Enterprise Edition environments.
Complete workflow solution. Combine multiple Appligent components into a single workflow. For example, merge and flatten forms with FDFMerge, append several forms together with AppendPDF Pro, and then digitally sign them with SecurSignall with just one function call per component from your client application.
Extensibility. Add new components as your workflow becomes more complex, just by dropping them into a tools folder. APConductor is available for all Appligent server products.
Detailed reporting. Receive SOAP Fault messages, as well as error messages from APConductor that cover both APConductor and the components it accesses.
Sample XML SOAP Message
The following example shows a typical SOAP message exchange between a Java client and APConductor.

When your client program calls a server component—APGetPageCount in this case—a SOAP library compatible with your environment generates an XML SOAP message.
Modes of Operation
APConductor runs in the background as a service, listening for SOAP requests.
On Windows systems, start and stop APConductor from the Control Panel; on Unix and Mac OS X, use simple command-line options. Once APConductor is started, a client application can make procedure calls to implement your workflow using SOAP libraries specific to your development environment. SOAP functions create and process XML messages, the HTTP server (or FTP) transmits the messages, and APConductor does the rest in tandem with the Appligent components called by the client application.
