FDFMerge
Data Sheet Information
What Is FDFMerge?
FDFMerge is a server-based application that reliably combines PDF forms
with data to create a new, filled-in PDF form. Use it to merge business forms
across a network or to programmatically create completed forms based on information
entered by Web customers that is already being directed to your customer
database.
Key Features
Acrobat not required. Create completed forms that can be saved
to the desktop or printed even if the user only has the free Adobe Reader.
Plain-text and XML support. Merge your PDF forms with data from
plain-text-formatted FDF (Forms Data Format) files or XML-formatted xFDF
files.
Multiple forms processing. Process multiple forms using only one
FDF or xFDF file.
Form flattening. Remove active form fields and stamp the field
content directly into the document. Flatten the entire form or selected
form fields.
Image stamping. Stamp an image into a form field.
Field customization. Change the border width, border color (RGB
or CMYK), and background color of fields.
Text formatting. Crop field text and change the font, point size,
alignment, color, and more. FDFMerge supports Adobe Base 14 fonts, PostScript
Type 1 fonts, and Asian language (CJK) Unicode characters.
Full Acrobat security. Apply 40-bit or 128-bit file encryption
to your forms. Set a user password to control who may view, print, or modify
a document, and an owner password to control who may change security settings.
Linearization. Optimize output PDFs for faster access and viewing
when downloaded from the Web or a network.
Choice of save options. Choose an incremental or garbage-collected
save to achieve the optimum speed, memory usage, and output file size.
FDFMerge is compatible with PDF 1.2 and higher.
Modes of Operation
You can run FDFMerge in a variety of ways:
Basic operations. The simplest way to run FDFMerge is from the
command line with an FDF or xFDF file and an option to flatten all form
fields. If you want to flatten only some of the form fields or change
the original formatting, you can use a FormInfo file to define your specifications.
Automation options. On the Web, use FDFMerge with a CGI script
to dynamically create forms based on data users submit from their browsers.
In an electronic document workflow, FDFMerge can be scripted for multistage
processing and used with Appligent’s other products as part of
a complete PDF workflow solution.
Optional Web service. Expose FDFMerge functionality to your entire
network with APConductor, a separate Appligent Web service product. Use
it to programmatically pass the function parameters FDFMerge needs via
a single SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) call.
FDFMerge is compatible with Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and higher.
