Modification Utilities
The modifying utilities are used to change the structure of PDF
files. Examples include: stripping active content,
saving files to correct malformed structures and setting document
information.
All of the modification utilities are independent, stand alone applications; they do Not require Adobe Acrobat.
APSaveAs
Performs a full save on one or more PDF documents. This is
similar to using the Save As feature in Adobe Acrobat, which tries to
delete unnecessary information that has accumulated during file edits, and
frequently results in a reduced fi le size. Options are also available for
attempting further size reductions and for linearizing output to achieve
more efficient Web delivery.
APJavaScript
Lets you create a report on the existing JavaScripts in one
or more PDF documents and add new JavaScripts to those documents. If the
report shows that your documents contain unwanted scripts, you can remove
them with the APStripFiles utility (see below). Scripts that you add can be
set to execute when an event, such as opening or closing the document, is
triggered.
APSetDocInfo
Allows you to add or edit the following Document Information
properties in PDF files: title, subject, author, keywords, creator,
producer, creation date, and modification date. You can also create new
custom properties and change initial viewing options.
APStripFiles
Removes attached files from PDF documents, eliminating the
threat of viruses that can infect attachments.
Modes of Operation
You can run the modification utilities in a variety of ways:
Basic operations The simplest way to run one of the modification utilities
is from the command line. Option flags are available to tailor the output.
Automation options
The modification utilities can be scripted
for multistage processing and used with Appligent’s other products
as part of a complete PDF workflow solution.

utilities to your entire network with APConductor, a separate Appligent
Web service product. Use it to programmatically pass the function parameters
each utility needs with just one SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) call
