Redaction
Redaction is the removal of content prior to release or publication. Appligent's redaction products completely remove content from the data stream, unlike other solutions that merely hide the information under black bars. Since the content is no longer in the document, snooping or hacking into the file cannot reveal the redacted information.
Redaction has many applications in government, the court system
and many regulated industries. For instance, the Freedom of Information
Act (FOIA) mandates public access to many documents as long as sensitive
content is not disclosed.
Appligent has been developing PDF redaction technology for the past 10 years. Our first version of Redax was released in January, 1997. Redax 4.5 was released in May, 2007.
